BelizeMost 15 and 16 year old girls never get the chance to leave the country and go on a mission trip, but two of our residents were blessed with that opportunity last week! While other 15-16 year-olds were laying out by the pool or sleeping in until noon, these two were sweating and playing with the Myan children of San Antonio village, Belize.

What a blessing it was for us, their houseparents, to see them transform before our very eyes into two amazing, servant-hearted, non-complaining, flexible teenage girls! While one used her gift of photography and video making the other used her gifts of athletics and both met the needs of over 200 children by just spending time getting to know them. Not just talking about Jesus but being the hands and feet of Him. Sarah took pictures and made videos of the children and then made PowerPoint presentations that we showed at the services each night! The faces of the kids lit up each time they saw themselves or their friends on the “big screen”.

Luke 12:48 says “When someone has been given much, much will be required in return.” It would be easy to assume that this scripture is referring to the wealthy- those who have been “given much,” but in our home we teach the children that even though they are at the children’s home, they have been “given much” as well. We teach them to work on “forgetting the past and looking toward what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13.) These two girls have done that! They have worked through their hurts and circumstances and have chosen to press forward in serving Christ and others. We are so proud of them and look forward to seeing what their future holds!
